A review by Ed Rogers As a long-time pinball fan, I'm pleasantly surprised to have discovered Ruiner Pinball. High Voltage Software (of White Men Can't Jump) really created a superb cartridge. Ruiner is actually two different pinball games: Ruiner and Tower. Both tables are 1-5 players Ruiner is set in the early 1960's, with JFK and other voices in the background. I mean frigid cold war baby! I'm talkin' Bay of Pigs/Cuban Missile Crisis here. Tower is a demonic paradise of sorts. Cast spells to destroy the Tower, which unlocks multiballs and gives you other goodies. The board is actually three tables in one. You start off on the middle table. There are warp tubes to get to the tables above – if your aim is true. Graphics: Hm, what can I say? The boards are well drawn on both tables, and there is some extra eye candy in the way of moving targets. The colors in Tower are reminiscent of the 60s black light craze – Far out man! All right, I'll give it a 7.5 Sound FX: If there is a game that utilizes the Jag's sound capabilities, it's Ruiner. The voices, blips, booms, and other audio tidbits are straight from the arcade. The bugs (they're not maggots 'cause they have legs) make an interesting squishy sound when you run over them with the ball. Rating 9 Music: The music actually sets the tone on both boards, it improves the playability enormously! That's something I never would have expected on an Atari product. In Ruiner the tempo subtly increases as you play, lending an undertone of urgency. Tower's bass thumps loud. I simply can't explain it adequately, you FEEL the music! Definitely one you want to hear through your stereo. I give it a 10!
